THE HILLIARD ENSEMBLE

The Hilliard Ensemble Photo: Marco Borggreve

THURSDAY 19th JUNE 2014, 7:30pm

This is the ensemble’s first ever concert in Sheffield and will be also the last, as the the Hilliards are going to stop by the end of 2014. A must-hear event where the group will take you through their iconic programme Arkhangelos , featuring early and modern Christian music from the Roman, English, French, Greek, Russian and Armenian traditions. This programme spans a millennium—from Byzantine chants, to works by the little-known English composer Sheryngham, to settings of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom by Alexander Raskatov—and celebrates the ensemble’s continuing relationship with living composers, including Arvo Pärt (Estonia), Vache Sharafyan (Armenia), and Alexander Raskatov (Russia).
