Safeguarding at St Marie’s

Safeguarding is the protection of children and vulnerable adults, who are suffering – or are at risk of suffering – significant harm, ill treatment, the impairment of health or development, abuse or neglect.

Safeguarding practice is recognised by the Catholic Church as ‘central’ to the mission and ministry of the Church, and integral to creating communities of wholeness with Christ at the centre.

The Diocese of Hallam, and the people in its parish churches, work hard to safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults. At St Marie’s we put safeguarding is at the heart of our activities in order to provide a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all.  We aim to create an environment where children, young people and adults are able to practice their faith and take an active part in parish life with confidence, so they may spiritually flourish.

We take safeguarding very seriously. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with our Safeguarding Representative: Mr Paul Helliwell.  He can be contacted via the Cathedral House
