A community initiative for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees
Hope & Dignity Hearth (HanD) is a non-profit making community group, offering wellbeing support to asylum seekers, refugees, immigrants and other marginalised communities. HanD serves a diverse range of many sub-Saharan African individuals and families, who have experienced trauma and are at risk (or already experiencing) Post Trauma Stress Disorder, or other mental health difficulties. They are based in The Sanctuary from Monday to Wednesday each week, and in the Cathedral’s Parish Room on Thursday afternoons.
HanD aims to provide support to people in need through offering the hand of friendship, providing art therapy workshops, and providing help and advice around subjects such as cultural differences, nutrition and so on. By using arts and crafts, creative writing and drama, HanD aims to help its clients come to terms with their experiences, and find safe ways to express their feelings. This is an important step in the healing process.
