We would like to extend you a warm welcome to this new website of St. Marie’s Cathedral! St Marie’s has been a focal point of Catholic prayer and worship in Sheffield since 1850, and will continue to be so during these difficult times.
We are delighted to announce that, from the weekend of 4th/5th July, St Marie’s Cathedral will be once again open for public Masses. This will be in addition to our current opening hours for private prayer.
In order to keep everyone safe, we are closely following the guidelines of the Government and the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales. These include cleaning the church between Masses and having hand sanitiser available for all to use before they enter and as they leave. A one-way system will be introduced, and social distancing measures will be in place. Stewards will be on hand to help implement these.
To begin with, numbers at Mass will need to be carefully managed, so we are introducing a simple text-based booking system, where you will be able to book attendance. Please click here for instructions on how to do so. As you come to Mass, we would ask you not to arrive too early and to leave promptly afterwards, so that the Church can be cleaned between Masses. In addition, we will be continuing to live-stream Mass at 11.00am on Sundays, and at 8am on weekdays.
We hope that things will continue to improve, and that some of these measures can be relaxed. When we are able to safely increase the number we can accommodate at any one time, we will do so.
In the meantime, may God bless and comfort you,
Fr. Christopher Posluszny
