Music at St Marie’s Cathedral
Music is a very important part of our worship, here at St Marie’s. The acoustics of the church are fabulous, making it a wonderful venue to experience a range of different types of sacred music.
In a normal week, our Cathedral Choir, accompanied by music from our rare Lewis Organ, can be heard at the 10:30am Mass on Sundays, as well as at all the major liturgical events throughout the year. The Sunday Evening Worship Group provides the music for the 6:30pm Mass on Sundays.
The Cathedral also hosts the occasional concert and musical event. There is not a regular programme of concerts, so please keep an eye on the weekly bulletin and our Facebook page if you wish to come and experience one for yourself.
The Choir is an important and enjoyable ministry, giving opportunities to enhance the liturgy for others and to deepen one’s own faith and spirituality. The Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings (7.30 pm – 9 pm) and sings at Mass (10.30 am) every Sunday and at the major liturgical events of the Church Year. New members are welcome!
Sunday Evening Worship Group:
The Sunday Evening Worship Group assist leading the congregation in prayer and praise throughout the Sunday evening Mass at 6.30 pm. They sing a variety of traditional hymns, and Praise and Worship songs, both with or without instruments. New members are welcome!
There are also two musical parish groups at the Cathedral that also welcomes new members: the Gregorian Chant choirs, and the St Marie’s Bell-Ringers. You can find out more about them under ‘Parish & Community’.
